Believe it or snot
What’s the difference between boogers and broccoli? Kids won’t eat broccoli!
Boogers, mucus, snot or nose candy; call it whatever you wish but that slimy stuff in your nose actually is there to keep you healthy.
DIGGING DEEPER
It’s a good thing that snot is so helpful, because your body produces about a quart of it every day! It’s always in use, from keeping your lungs clean to getting rid of germs by running when you have a cold.
You may not think it; but boogers; or mucus (Myoo-cuss) actually plays an important role when you breathe. With every breath, you inhale germs, pollen, dust, dirt, sand, and even old skin cells. (Yuck!) If not for mucus, all these things would travel to your lungs and make you sick.
If you do get sick, you’ll probably get a runny nose; this is your body creating extra snot to wash out the germs.
The color of snot is normally clear, but can end up any color from yellow to brown to bright green. The color depends on what kind of junk your nose hairs and snot stopped from getting into your lungs. If your boogers are yellow; this could mean you’re sick. If your boogers are green; this could mean you’re either sick or you’re breathing too much pollution. If your boogers are white; this probably just means you’re drinking too much milk.
Did You Nose that?
Scarlett Johansson once blew into a tissue and sold it on Ebay for $5,300 and donated that money to charity. (Talk about nose gold!)
Stuffy nose? I can’t think of a better reason for some hot soup or hot chocolate. The steam from the hot liquid brakes up the mucus and allows you to temporarily remove the mucus.
